Giants 8, Padres 3
Carlos Beltran, Cody Ross and Pablo Sandoval all homered as the San Francisco Giants posted an 8-3 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday.
Beltran hit a two-run homer in the first, Ross hit a solo shot in the third and Sandoval belted a three-run blast in the seventh for San Francisco, which remained 8 1/2 games behind first-place Arizona in the National League West.
Rookie lefthander Eric Surkamp (2-0) gave up three runs (two earned) and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings for San Francisco.
Ross and Aubrey Huff added run-scoring singles for the Giants. Ross had three hits and scored three times.
The Padres pulled within 4-3 in the sixth on run-scoring singles by Kyle Blanks and Orlando Hudson before the Giants responded with a four-run seventh.
Chris Denorfia also had a run-scoring single for San Diego. Denorfia and Nick Hundley each had three hits for the Padres.
San Diego starter Aaron Harang (13-6) gave up four runs and six hits in five innings.
