Blue Jays 3, Orioles 0
Ricky Romero threw 8 1/3 shutout innings for his first victory in more than a month as the retooled Toronto Blue Jays upended the visiting Baltimore Orioles 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Romero (8-9) worked out of a mini-jam in the second inning and was virtually untouchable until the ninth, when Vladimir Guerrero reached on a wild-pitch strikeout and Derrek Lee was hit by a pitch.
Jon Rauch came on in relief and retired Matt Wieters and Mark Reynolds for his eighth save.
J.P. Arencibia led the way for Toronto with his 16th home run while Eric Thames went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Romero allowed four hits while walking three and striking out nine.
His lengthy outing was welcome to Toronto, which shipped three relievers out of town earlier in the day in a pair of trades that netted them outfielder Colby Rasmus and utilityman Mark Teahen, among others. None of the Jays' new acquisitions played.
Orioles starter Alfredo Simon (2-4) was charged with three runs on seven hits over his five-inning stint. He walked two and struck out seven.
