Rangers 7, Angels 1
C.J. Wilson threw seven strong innings and Adrian Beltre clubbed a three-run homer as the host Texas Rangers trounced the Los Angeles Angels 7-1 on Monday night to reclaim sole possession of first place in the American League West.
After Mitch Moreland's bases-loaded single in the fourth gave Texas (11-5) a 2-0 lead, the Rangers busted the game open against Ervin Santana (0-2) in the fifth. Ian Kinsler led off with a triple and scored on a bunt single by Elvis Andrus, and Beltre stretched the margin to six when he followed Michael Young's single with a three-run shot to center.
The Angels (10-6), who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, avoided the shutout with Howard Kendrick's RBI single in the seventh.
Moreland padded the Rangers' cushion with a solo homer in the eighth.
Wilson (2-0) struck out nine and scattered nine hits over seven innings.
Santana, meanwhile, failed to retire a batter in the fifth, and surrendered 10 hits, two walks and six earned runs.
