Alexi Ogando pitched eight shutout innings and the visiting Texas Rangers extended their winning streak to a major league-high 12 games with a 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.
Ogando (10-3), who was making his first start since July 6, gave up four hits and struck out five. Rangers starting pitchers have allowed two earned runs in their last 48 innings.
Rookie Tyler Chatwood (5-6) allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings as Los Angeles lost for the fourth time in five games since the All-Star break.
Endy Chavez hit a two-run homer in the eighth for Texas, which moved five games ahead of second-place Los Angeles.
Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre added to the Rangers’ lead with back-to-back solo home runs in the ninth. The Rangers have outscored their opponents 24-2 in the last five games.
