Rangers 9, Angels 5
Josh Hamilton belted a two-run homer and snapped a tie with an RBI single during a four-run seventh inning as the Texas Rangers posted a 9-5 home victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
Yorvit Torrealba also went deep and Elvis Andrus and Endy Chavez drove in a pair of runs for American League West-leading Texas, which took two of three to extend its lead to three games over Los Angeles. The division rivals will meet for a three-game set in Anaheim in the final series of the regular season.
Nelson Cruz exited the contest with a strained left hamstring after ripping a double to right field in the sixth inning.
Darren Oliver (5-5) relieved starter Colby Lewis and tossed one scoreless inning to pick up the win. Mike Adams bridged the gap to Neftali Feliz, who retired the side in the ninth to preserve the victory.
Pitching on three days' rest, Jered Weaver (15-7) yielded seven runs on eight hits in six innings to take the loss.
Howie Kendrick belted his fifth homer in six contests and rookie Mark Trumbo had an RBI double for Los Angeles, which fell for just the second time in nine games.
