Angels 4, Rangers 1
Jered
Weaver became the first five-game winner in the majors, leading the Los
Angeles Angels into first place in the American League West with a 4-1
victory in Texas on Wednesday night.
Weaver
(5-0) went the distance for Los Angeles, striking out eight without a
walk while scattering six hits in his first complete game of the season and fifth career. He gave up an RBI double to Michael
Young in the sixth inning but did not allow
another runner past second base all night as he lowered his ERA to 1.23.
Howie
Kendrick put the Angels in front with his sixth home run
in the fourth inning against Texas starter Matt Harrison (3-1), and Jeff Mathis made it 2-0 in the fifth when he
plated Peter Bourjos with a sacrifice.
After the Rangers (11-7) got within a run on Young's double, Los Angeles
tacked on another run against Harrison in the seventh before
Vernon Wells capped the scoring in the eighth with his first home run of
the season.
Harrison
yielded three runs on just four hits in 6 2/3 innings of work for
Texas, which had held at least a share of the division lead since
Opening Day.
