Angels 9, Rangers 8
Howard Kendrick drove in four runs and the host Los Angeles Angels used a six-run sixth inning to end the Texas Rangers’ 12-game winning streak with a 9-8 victory on Wednesday night.
After Texas scored five runs in the fifth to take an 8-3 lead, Los Angeles sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth and tied a season-high for runs in an inning. Kendrick capped the outburst with a two-run single.
Texas starter Derek Holland (8-5) gave up seven runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings after throwing back-to-back shutouts.
Hisanori Takahashi (3-2) earned the win and Jordan Walden worked a scoreless ninth for his 22nd save. Angels starter Dan Haren allowed seven runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
The Rangers’ winning streak was the second longest in franchise history behind a 14-game run in 1991.
Torii Hunter homered in the third for the Angels, who moved to within four games of the American League West-leading Rangers.
