Angels 1, Rangers 0

Jared Weaver threw seven scoreless innings and the Los Angeles Angels shutout visiting Texas 1-0 on Thursday despite being held to just two hits by Rangers' starter C.J. Wilson.

The Angels scored with two outs in the second inning when Rangers center fielder Endy Chavez dropped Mike Trout’s fly ball and allowed Howie Kendrick to score from second base.

Weaver (13-4) gave up seven hits while striking out six, while Wilson (10-4) was the hard-luck loser after giving up one unearned run with one walk and eight strikeouts over eight innings.

Weaver, who entered the game with a major-league best 1.90 ERA, threw 122 pitches and improved to 7-0 lifetime at home against the Rangers.

Jordan Walden worked a scoreless ninth inning for his 23rd save, which sets a franchise record for saves by a rookie.

The Angels moved to within three games of first-place Texas after winning the last two games of the three-game series. The Angels snapped the Rangers' 12-game win streak with a 9-8 victory on Wednesday.
